“The smoke of Yimeng” likely refers to the smoke of guns in the Yimeng Mountain area during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. The heroic company rising from this is the Eighth Company of the Third Battalion of the Eleventh Regiment of the Second Military Sub-region of the Eighth Route Army, later known as the “Daigu Company”.In November 1943, the Japanese army调集重兵 besieged the Lvzhong Anti-Japanese Base Area. The Eighth Company was ordered to rely on the favorable terrain of Nandai Gu and Beidai Gu to hold off the enemy. They fought tenaciously for 18 days, blocking over ten thousand Japanese and puppet troops with a small force, achieving a great victory with few casualties. The Eighth Route Army Shandong Military Region awarded it the honorary title of “Daigu Company”. Later, the company participated in many battles such as the Menglianggu Campaign and the Huaihai Campaign, and was also awarded the honorary title of “Wusheng Mountain Blocking Model Company” in the Korean War.
